in terms of art i dont do anything digital. im unsure whether that is because of a lack of interest in that media or a lack of funding. i was first exposed to digital art when i read 2000 AD; a british comic that includes masterpieces such as Judge Dredd and Nikolai Dante and of course the revival of Tank Girl. However in my niavety i placed the talent solely on replicated drawn pieces. ha ha how foolish of me! i soon learnt in an FX magazine i bought to pass the time in birmingham airport that there was and always had been a large minority and a growing one, of digital images drawn using photoshop etc and graphics blocks.
i am primarily a pen/ink drawer and revel in combat/action/war images when doodling or even coming up with a sufficient plot to string my imagination into a coherent flow. however my major tool when creating images is acrylic paints. going back to my first exposure to digital art, i was at first angry that these people could take a graphics block, some clever software and create images almost realistic to me. i believed arrogantly at first that this was a cheat; that i had been by passed in my fine art techniques by a modern movement that would surpass any traditional method. then after i calmed down i soon realised that when paint was invented, the chalk and pottery artist must have felt the same as me but they, as i now have come to respect these pioneers in a new field of what is only an advancement in the fine art i love (mostly due to Charlie Johnson AKA Fire of Anubis thank you very much! ).
however dear readers i am not at the drop of a hat going to start digital art nor am i going to invest in the long term to begin dabbling in this hobby. no my friends instead i am going to stick to my guns as i can no more dabble, as a painter, in digital art, as an architect can dabble in landscape gardening. the two are seperate and are meant to be that way.
though this is a long introduction i reveal to those reading that althoug i will not be regularly presenting didgital art i will however be revealing week by week, month by month, the fruits of my labour in my own field of art.
peas and gravy comrades.
Erik
